Frequently asked questions

How many sheets of drywall for a 12 × 12 room?

With 8 ft walls and the ceiling: 17 sheets of 4 × 8 including 10 % waste.

Should I use 4×8 or 4×12 sheets?

Longer sheets mean fewer joints to tape, but they are heavier. 4 × 12 is common on walls in new construction.

How much joint compound do I need?

About 0.14 lb per ft² of board for three coats — 66 lb for a 12 × 12 room with ceiling.
